The Project...
Pavel Boytchev proposed The Logo Atlas on the LogoForum in November 2003. We were all very excited, and there was a some discussion as to the format it should take and its purpose which I have gathered together in the subpage below.
Well, this is it- it exists! Of course there are better formats- of course I am being presumptious.
So some technical detail.
This site is powered by a PHP content management system (cmsimple) written in Denmark under a AGPL licence. The content is stored in one html file, so it can be uploaded on request and viewed as a single document, which was one of the requirements of the project.
Cmsimple allows the full range of HTML4.01 tags, with one neat twist, The tags <-h1 /><-h2 /><-h3> are used to force page breaks-and the page titles you see in the left panel menu. The author is left with <-h4 /><-h5 /><-h6> for on page formatting.
Text submitted is easiest to use if it is in 'Semantic HTML'- ie without <-font style= tags>
Cmsimple has a search box- allowing the user search for say 'multimedia'. Another requirement of the project.
CMSimple uses formatting templates so appearance is independant of text- and can be changes at will.
One of the hanging points was we all agreed to use Apple Logo as a standard- but no one had a copy of the manual. While we are waiting for one I have scanned the appendices of a couple of books I have borrowed. These may do. The missing Apple II Manual.Cmsimple allows the full range of HTML4.01 tags, with one neat twist, The tags <-h1 /><-h2 /><-h3> are used to force page breaks-and the page titles you see in the left panel menu. The author is left with <-h4 /><-h5 /><-h6> for on page formatting.

All discussion of these pages will take place on the Logo Forum
So what have I done
- I have Scanned an Apple II Manual
- I have Harvested the forum
- I have Distilled down aims of the project
- I have Identified a methodology that is.
- Top Down
- Describes each Implementation formally and in free text
- That derives from it a feature tree
- I have implemented this methodolgy as a hierarchically flat file that is displayed in a Content Management System. See the sitemap for details.
- Under each implementation:
- Synopsis : is a free text summary.
- Analysis- How it differs from Apple II, and Berkeley:
- Primary Sources- putting on line the evidence urls/articles that for others to use later.
- From this is built the Feature tree.
- Provide a Feature debate.
- Also it can document how primitives are implemented- A primitives glossary
- In addition to provide a place to deposit the urls of manuals, which was mentioned by many.
- I have mercilessly cut and pasted from sources on the web. Then cut and pasted from my cut and pastes.
- I have transfered comments from the forum . (April 2006)
- I researched many sites in the Spanish French and Portuguese speaking world.
- I have gathered links to manuals.
Everything on these pages is changeable. If you claim copyright for some thing you find here- email me and credit will be given or it can be removed. Designers and authors are encouraged to participate.
How to Contribute:
Please mail contributions to the forum. When there is sufficient demand- I will establish a whitelist of members who will be able to edit directly.
